Sami Pictograph T-shirt

Sami Pictograph T-shirt

The design on this shirt is from the Sami mythology pictograph wood burning. The design tells a story of ones journey from birth to death, and the soul. The design in the center is a developing fetus to symbolize the gift of life and the serpent which guides and protects the soul on it’s journey. From the center branches four radials that make up the Sami southern cross. There are three worlds: heavens, middle earth, and the underworld, also called Saivo or Jabma Aimo. The underworld is where the dead live, as it was logical for the Sami to believe, as all things dead returned to earth. In the top are depictions of Sami Gods and Goddesses, such as The Three Sisters, various hunting and weather gods, and crosses and pillars to represent the gods Atzhie, Attje, and Kiedde. The middle layer depicts earthly life of the Sami, and consists of people, reindeer, pulks, wolves, birds, plants, trees, moon, weather, new animals, lavvos, alters, sweat lodges, arrival of Christianity (missionaries), and noaidi (shamans), the traditional communicator between Earth and the other realms. The bottom layer is Saivo or Jabma Aimo, and consists of the ground people known as the saiwo olmah, the three spirit animals: reindeer (saivo-sarva), serpent (saivo-guolle), and the bird (saivo lodde).
